The essence of being a mother

Life is never easy, so whatever comes to destroy you, stay firm and be bravest you can be. Every one of us is a dreamer, and as we dream, we build strong foundation that no one could easily destroy. This dream can somehow change your whole being and the people around you. But along the way, you will be facing a lot of struggles that will test your courage and determination and after all the hardworks and challenges, you will be able to manage and say, I did it.

This is a story of human survival. A story that somehow, shows how a mother, despite of their piteous situation manage to survive and still supports his children to achieve their goals in life.

A good mother knows how to love and care for her children

Aling Elna as what her friends called her is a mother of ten children. She lived in a small house together with her children because her husband had already died. After the death of her husband, Aling Elna could not think what will happen to them. But because of her strong will and perseverance, she started to put up a small business in order to have an income for her family. She earned their living by waking up early in the morning just to sell her ‘kakanin’ in the market together with her child Andoy who was forced to stop in school.

Among the children of Aling Elna, two were now studying in college, two in high schools and three in elementary. The rest were forced to stop because they can barely afford to send in school due to lack of financial aspect. As a single mother, Aling Elna worked hard because she strongly believed that someday, her children will lift them up from what they are suffering now.

At around 4 o’oclock in the morning, Aling Elna will wake up just to prepare her ‘kakanin’ products like puto, baye-baye, suman, kalamayhati, pitche-pitche, ibos, kutsinta and etc. These native products were made by Aling Elna together by her children a night before they will sell it to the market. Since it’s a market, a lot of competitions happened. But luckily, because of her cheerful approach and entertaining conversation, most of her products were sold. She is a woman of principle because no matter what the situation is, she manages it with a smile on her face.

Because of Aling Elna’s determination, hardship and perseverance despite of those situations, now, she was happy knowing that her children already fulfilled their goals in life. One of her child is now a secondary public teacher and the other one is an accountant in one of the companies here in Iloilo. They are the ones who supported their other siblings and encourage them to continue studying and also achieved their own goals in life.

Aling Elna is truly a hardworking woman and a strong mother. Despite of the problems and consequences she had faced, she still pursues and did what a mother should be done with their children. Show them love and care. Give them good education and support them to achieve their goals in life.

Values involved in the Drama

1.       Strong will – after the death of her husband, Aling Elna don’t easily give up because she knows that she is the one who served as strength of her children. Despite of sadness and longing for her husband, still he proved that she can do it and that she will continue working hard for the sake of her children.

2.       Determination – Aling Elna is a woman of principle. No matter what the situation is, she can manage to survive it and with a smile. She was very determined to work hard just to provide the needs of her children.

3.       Supportive – As a mother, Mang Elna makes sure that he gave her child what’s best for them. Maybe not all of them but still he wanted that all her children can achieved their goals in life. He is indeed a very supportive mother.
