Change for the betterment

                                                    By: Elyrose S. Naorbe

Human beings are born with physical, mental, psychological, social and emotional attributes. With different races, age, color, height, built, and characteristics, people are living creatures born with universal emotions such as love, kindness, pity, anger, happiness, compassion, jealousy and a lot more, far different creatures like plants and animals.

Every one of us must realize that in order to create a perfect gift towards sustainable development, we should help one another even in our own simple way. And this can be a good start if we ourselves know how to value everything.

As individuals, we can start creating change by different kind of responsibility in our houses, communities, and even in our country in general. So what are the simple responsibilities that we should observe and do?

First in our house, as a child, i tend to help my parents in doing our household chores such cleaning the house, watering the plants, cleaning the surroundings, and fetching water. I also act like a good child and always obeying my parents. I also do my part such as giving my parents an opportunity to achieved happiness in my own simple way. I want them to feel that having a child like me is worth having after all.

In our community, as a concern citizen, i also take actions on how to maintain the cleanliness of our community. Since i am one of the Sangguniang Kabataan in our community, i am also responsible in doing things that creates social impact. As part of the job, we are the one cleaning ng the surroundings in order to have a disease free community. We also teach other people especially the youth on how to segregate their garbage properly and put this in their respective trash cans.  Also by planting trees which was considered as a special gift and activity to mother Earth. But if man doesn’t know how to use the gifts of his knowledge, it will be a reason for discernment to overcome destructions in order to achieve happiness, and then he will loses the power and responsibility to rule this magnificent habitat. We also conduct programs and symposiums that teach people to be part of the active organization. We encourage them to take impart and give their insights in different topics. Aside from that, we also led them to engage in sports like basketball, volleyball, badminton and etc. We believed that if they will be engrossed in such sports event, we can help them direct their life in a positive way and avoid those using drugs or commit illegal acts.

The essence of being a mother

Life is never easy, so whatever comes to destroy you, stay firm and be bravest you can be. Every one of us is a dreamer, and as we dream, we build strong foundation that no one could easily destroy. This dream can somehow change your whole being and the people around you. But along the way, you will be facing a lot of struggles that will test your courage and determination and after all the hardworks and challenges, you will be able to manage and say, I did it.
This is a story of human survival. A story that somehow, shows how a mother, despite of their piteous situation manage to survive and still supports his children to achieve their goals in life.
A good mother knows how to love and care for her children
Aling Elna as what her friends called her is a mother of ten children. She lived in a small house together with her children because her husband had already died. After the death of her husband, Aling Elna could not think what will happen to them. But because of her strong will and perseverance, she started to put up a small business in order to have an income for her family. She earned their living by waking up early in the morning just to sell her ‘kakanin’ in the market together with her child Andoy who was forced to stop in school.
Among the children of Aling Elna, two were now studying in college, two in high schools and three in elementary. The rest were forced to stop because they can barely afford to send in school due to lack of financial aspect. As a single mother, Aling Elna worked hard because she strongly believed that someday, her children will lift them up from what they are suffering now.
At around 4 o’oclock in the morning, Aling Elna will wake up just to prepare her ‘kakanin’ products like puto, baye-baye, suman, kalamayhati, pitche-pitche, ibos, kutsinta and etc. These native products were made by Aling Elna together by her children a night before they will sell it to the market. Since it’s a market, a lot of competitions happened. But luckily, because of her cheerful approach and entertaining conversation, most of her products were sold. She is a woman of principle because no matter what the situation is, she manages it with a smile on her face.
Because of Aling Elna’s determination, hardship and perseverance despite of those situations, now, she was happy knowing that her children already fulfilled their goals in life. One of her child is now a secondary public teacher and the other one is an accountant in one of the companies here in Iloilo. They are the ones who supported their other siblings and encourage them to continue studying and also achieved their own goals in life.
Aling Elna is truly a hardworking woman and a strong mother. Despite of the problems and consequences she had faced, she still pursues and did what a mother should be done with their children. Show them love and care. Give them good education and support them to achieve their goals in life.

Values involved in the Drama
1.       Strong will – after the death of her husband, Aling Elna don’t easily give up because she knows that she is the one who served as strength of her children. Despite of sadness and longing for her husband, still he proved that she can do it and that she will continue working hard for the sake of her children.
2.       Determination – Aling Elna is a woman of principle. No matter what the situation is, she can manage to survive it and with a smile. She was very determined to work hard just to provide the needs of her children.
3.       Supportive – As a mother, Mang Elna makes sure that he gave her child what’s best for them. Maybe not all of them but still he wanted that all her children can achieved their goals in life. He is indeed a very supportive mother.

By: Elyrose s. Naorbe

Petron’s big wingmen, perfect import, dominant big man are ready to take off for their 27th final appearance after showing an emphatic victory over ferocious defense of  Rain or Shine Elasto Painters  in this year’s 38th Governors’ Cup, posted the final score to 110-89.
Import Elijah Millsap and guard Alex Cabagnot teamed up in the crucial game in the third period as they combined 28 points of their team’s 34 points.
The undermanned players of Elasto Painters, who was the defending champion of last year’s conference rebuffed to go down easily as they rallied to within 10, 79-89, on a three-pointer by Gabe Norwood at the 7:24 mark of the final frame.
But that was the closest ROS came as Petron got timely baskets from Cabagnot and swingman Marcio Lassiter, who had a career game at the three-point distance.
Marcio Lassiter led the Boosters playing with good momentum over Elasto Painters.
Millsap led the Boosters with 34 points while Lassiter exploded for his season-best 27 points on a career best seven of 10 shooting from downtown on top of 12 rebounds while Cabagnot added 23 points and eight assists.

Salud explains sanctions vs players involved in fracas

MANILA – Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner Chito Salud said the sanctions handed down against the players involved in the free-for-all between San Mig Coffee and GlobalPort depended on the gravity of their actions.
GlobalPort’s Kelly Nabong and San Mig Coffee’s Marc Pingris, who were at the center of the melee, were fined P60, 000 each and were suspended for two games.
Mixers power forward Joe Devance was slapped with a one-game ban aside from a P30,000 fine.
The Batang Pier’s Marvin Hayes, who was caught pushing the head of San Mig import Marqus Blakely to the floor, was fined P20, 000 for his unsportsmanlike conduct.
“Effective immediately yang 2-game suspension kay Marc at kay Kelly, tapos ‘yung kay Joe Devence one-game suspension, next game also,” said Salud in an interview with dzMM’s Pasada Sais Trenta.
The PBA commissioner said Pingris and Nabong received the harshest of penalties because they were caught swinging punches at each other, unlike Devance who was slapped with a lighter sanction despite triggering the melee.
The fight broke out when Devance rushed to aid Blakely, who was the recipient of a flagrant foul by Hayes. Davance shoved Hayes to the floor and this prompted the bench-clearing incident.
“Nakita natin na biglang pumasok sa eksena si Joe Devance na wala namang kinalaman sa foul situation at that time. After that, Nabong attacked and then the next thing we knew, sila na ni Marc Pingris ang naghaharap,’ said Salud.
“Ang mabigat ay kay Nabong at kay Pingris, [silang] dalawa ang nagpalitan ng suntok sa court.”
Salud said Devance received a lighter penalty because he wasn’t actually involved in the fist fight that ensued.
“Usually mabigat yun kung itinuloy mo yung away, obviously si Joe Devance ang nagtrigger ng away, yung pagtulak nya, pero makikita mo sa video na hindi siya nakipag-away at hindi rin sya nagbigay ng kahit isang suntok.”
It was the first time a brawl took place under Salud’s term as PBA commissioner.
Salud maintained that violence has no place in a sport like basketball.
“Ang pakikipag-away sa basketball o kahit anumang sport or palakasan ay walang lugar yan, hindi tinatanggap yan, unacceptable yan,” he said.
“Kahit ikaw ay naguumpisa lang, nangungurot ka lang pero hindi ka tumutuloy sa away, meron ka ring karampatang sanction na matatamo. Sana maintidihan ng mga fans natin yan, ginagawa natin ang lahat para hindi na maulit.” ABS-CBN News.
